Back on shore yesterday afternoon, and I'll admit its a little strange. After 75 days doing the same thing in *basically* the same place (even though that place is moving), its weird to be sitting in a Denny's at the Detroit Metro Airport and not be thinking about when I need to get back on the boat before it sails. Its weird to not have my flashlight or wonder where my hearing protection is. Its weird to wake up in the middle of the night and NOT hear people walking around or waves crashing into the bow.
But its good to be back. I had a good time, learned a lot, made a lot of good contacts and generally made the best I could out of a 75 day unpaid working vacation featuring those popular vacation spots Burns Harbor, IN and Superior, WI. But I'm quite happy to be back on land, getting the opportunity to see and hang out with the people I love, getting to eat something not prepared by Barb or Doug (although they do a good job, its still the same person and everyone starts repeating after awhile), and getting to enjoy the summer drinking some beer and doing nothing productive at all.
Next week I'll be heading over to Sid's place to finish most of the recording for the first album. John will follow the week after to do his parts and then we'll meet up for the parts we need to do together. The next fall term will be easy and the spring term will be the last one which automatically make it easy (and incredibly difficult) and then another summer and part of a fall on another unpaid working vacation and I'm done. Which isn't so bad, no matter how my creditors feel about it. I really don't have anything they can take away from me at this point, and they'll get all of their money as a 2007 X-day present, so screw em.
In the meantime, I'm just doing my best to enjoy Michigan in August, and seeing the people I've missed, and not rolling around in Ore dust. Its great.
