It turns out that I suck instead of Comcast, but it took me a day to figure it out. I'm sorry Mr. EvilCorporateMindSucker! Will you forgive me?

Anyway, things is working again. Funny story: Some dipshit backed into my car while I was stopped at a light and crunched it all to hell. I don't have collision coverage, and here in Michigan insurance is no-fault, so the best chance I have of getting any money to pay for it is by talking the dipshit's insurance company into giving me money.

Wait, that's not actually very funny. Ummm.... And then the guy says, "That wasn't my donkey!"

Ahhhahaha! Zen joke telling! I love it! I have no idea what the joke would be, I'm just happy I recognized it!

How does no-fault insurance work in Michigan? I've heard people say it, but I have no concept of how it actually functions.

Well, skin me alive and call me luggage, I guess that paints me a Californy right nice, doncha reckon?

The real simple answer is that your insurance is the only one that matters, as everyone's insurance pays their own claim. There is a side law(the one I'm trying to use) that allows you to get up to the cost of your deductible out of the other person's insurance. As I understand it, regular insurance has the insurance for the party deemed "at-fault" paying for the claim.

Thus, Insurance is cheaper for people who get in a lot of accidents, but more expensive for everyone else. This only applies to insurance, as any accident is still examined by the police and fault is assigned, this judgement just doesn't apply to the insurance claim.

Can anyone else tell me that I got it mostly right?

Yup, that's pretty much right. In the couple accidents I've been in (that were the other party's fault) it wasn't *too* difficult to get money from the other person's insurance. 3 or 4 phone calls usually did it (but you have to do all the legwork of getting the police report and sending it to the insurance company). Last time, (1997) I was able to get $500, but I don't know if they have raised that limit since then. Good luck fixing your car with $500.

There is a bill in committee right now to raise the limit to $1000, but currently its still at $500. Which isn't a lot.

Got the final quote from my Mechanic...

God Bless 'em.

I can't stop laughing...
