Carrying over from comments:
Amen, Lee.
Well it seems like we're going to have a tough time disagreeing. Hmmm... Let's go farther then.
Doesn't the fact that Schiavo got into this condition following years of bullimic purging imply that her "will to live" can't have been all that strong in the first place?
And does it matter who is more ghoulish: the husband or the parents? If we're to follow the rule of law, doesn't that require us to respect the husband's wishes, even if he was having sex with another women in Terri's Hospital bed? Legal guardianship is a pretty important part of the law, and if you're worried about how your husband/wife would behave if you became unable to make your own decisions, then perhaps you should have considered that pre-vows.

Interesting article about the difference between Tom Delay the family member and Tom Delay the politician:

I enjoyed the fact that Saletan concluded with something other than the "Tom Delay is a hypocrit and an asshole" that would be so gratifying to so many Slate readers (Please note: Tom Delay IS a hypocrit and an asshole).
Well.
Soon enough it shall be over. I am still appauled at our media for the complete and utter bullshit they are pulling. Since when does a brain dead woman have more media attention than something we as a public should be more focused on. Something such as a high school student opening fire in their school.
This just leads me closer to my firm belief that Darwin is coming true. Since we have bypassed Darwin and allowed those that normally would not survive to live, we have a degradation in the gene pool. And on top of it, we have too much fucking time on our hands. Some of us are so board that we butt our nose into other family business and threaten to kill husbands of dead wives or buy them off. We don't spend time talking to our families. Just loving those that are close to us.
Sorry ish for swearing.
bored. not board. and appalled, I think.
Thank goodness ya'll are updating your records, else you might find the grammar police busting into your compounds.
I'm having trouble faulting the media for covering this. Depending on your point of view, a disabled woman is being cruelly starved and dehydrated to death, or a braindead corpse is being gruesomelly kept "alive" to placate the insane wish fulfilment of her parents. Either way, it's something that people want to hear about. Add to that, the fact that Congress and the President grossly overstepped their authority in order to try to intervene, psychopathic (and probably murderous) fanatics are camped outside a Hospice, death threats issued to a judge, and the consequences of not having a living will are being vividly illuminated for all to see, and this is a big deal. They'd be remiss not to cover it.
On the other hand... many of those bad things may never have happened if the media had never covered the story in the first place...
